What does Barracuda Email Security do?
Barracuda cloud-based Email Security Service filters all your company’s inbound emails, and quarantines emails that are possibly spam, and blocks anything it considers malicious such as phishing, virus, fraud type emails using its advanced filtering engines.
Why is it important to have an email filter?
Email is the most common threat vector used by cyber criminals, so it’s vital to block their malicious emails before they hit your network.
How do I access my Barracuda portal?
You have two methods of accessing your quarantine, you can either click the ‘Manage Quarantine’ button in a Barracuda Quarantine Report email:
What do I need to know as an end user of Barracuda?
By default, the Barracuda Email Security service will send out a Barracuda Quarantine Report every weekday at 9.00am and 2.00pm, and at 9.00am only over the weekend, but only if you have emails in your Quarantine at the time the report was generated.
On your Barracuda Quarantine Reports, you should carefully review the emails and click a relevant button in the email, which will then take you off to the Barracuda Portal where the action will then be applied against that message.
What goes in to Quarantine? How will I know?
Barracuda analyses email and then based a range of factors, if it believes it is spam, it places the email in your Barracuda Quarantine and on the next periodic Quarantine Report time, you will then get the ‘Barracuda Quarantine Report’ email through to your Inbox.
How do I release quarantined emails?
You can click either Release or Whitelist next to the message in your Barracuda Quarantine Report email or you can open your browser, visit the Barracuda portal and release emails from within there.
The difference between Release and Whitelist, is that Whitelist will both release and allow future emails to get through without being quarantined.
What goes in to the blocked area of Barracuda? How will I know?
Emails that Barracuda determines are malicious and of high risk to your company or emails that are blocked by your company’s Barracuda policy.
You do not receive notification that an email has been blocked, so if you were expecting an email and did not receive it or see it in your Barracuda Quarantine Report email, you will need to check this in your Barracuda portal and select the ‘Blocked’ view from the drop down:
How do I release Blocked emails?
While you cannot release the emails in your blocked view and will not be able to see the body of the email or any attachments, you will be able to safely view the sender’s email address, the subject and the date and time of the email. If you were expecting that message or you trust the sender, you should raise a support ticket with us, we will then review the message and if deemed safe, we will release it for you.
What is a Whitelist and how can I make use of it?
A whitelist is a list of senders who you have predetermined (by single email address or whole domain name) that are allowed to pass through the Barracuda Email Security system and get straight through to your Inbox. Regardless of your whitelist, email bodies and attachments will still be filtered for virus code. Emails filtered due to these reasons will still be blocked, to maintain the security of your company’s network.
