Microsoft has changed how Office 365 updates are delivered to your machines. Office 365 updates have been removed from the regular windows updates. We have implemented a new way of delivering these Microsoft updates to ensure our supported clients receive the latest functionality and bug fixes.
We have stopped doing defrags as part of the Maintenance Night because most laptops and PCs contain Solid State Drives (SSD’s) replacing traditional hard drives. The way SSD’s are constructed means their lifespan is dictated by the number of reads and writes performed on that disk. Defrags create a lot of read and write activity and are not recommended as they may reduce the lifespan of the SSD.
To ensure that everyone receives the latest Windows 10 versions, we have changed how we manage updates to your machines.
Every six months, Microsoft releases a major Windows 10 version upgrade which includes the latest features and functionality as well as security updates. As each Windows 10 version is only supported for 18 months it is important to ensure all machines keep up with the newest version of Windows 10.
To accomplish this we will be releasing these major updates as part of the usual maintenance nights, following successful testing. There will be nothing extra for you to do as this will all be completed overnight as part of your regular Ziptech maintenance night.
