Merton & Lambeth Citizens’ Advice Bureau
Staff at Merton and Lambeth Citizen’s Advice Bureau (CAB) realised that they needed to make significant changes to the charity’s IT infrastructure. Their computers were running extremely slowly, and their staff and volunteers were concerned about the long term performance of the IT system in their various offices.
Dijali Teffah, the CAB’s Finance Manager explains:
“We had a number of different staff looking after our IT system, and it was completely confusing, and we did not know what was going on!”
A restricted budget
As with many charities, Merton and Lambeth CAB was concerned that IT support should not take donations and funds away from its beneficiaries. Ziptech understood the problem and the “balancing act” that can be needed to keep a charity running efficiently yet keeping costs in check.
The answer is Ziptech’s ProSupport package. It is specifically designed for charities who want to outsource the complex network, server, security and email support, but retain the much simpler PC support in-house. Volunteers and staff then manage the PC’s only calling on Ziptech for support when need more assistance. This gives the charity a reliable computer system, reduces IT costs and is perfect for a restricted budget.
The first step was a FREE network audit
Ziptech provided a free of charge “traffic light” audit, to uncover any “Gremlins” hidden in the CAB’s network. There was a lot of useful information in the comprehensive audit. It identified one major problem – a server that was very old, and was close to collapse. Based on this information the CAB decided to entrust Ziptech with its IT Support. It turned out to be just in time…
Recovery from a major server failure
Before new servers could be delivered and installed the unstable server identified in the Audit finally gave up the ghost just before Easter endangering the CAB’s information and network systems.
Ziptech put in a massive amount of work to recover the server and keep the CAB running, working around the clock and over the Easter holiday. All this work was done at no extra cost to the CAB.
The additional support required was all covered by the Ziptechs monthly ProSupport service. If the CAB hadn’t been covered by an IT Support contract and had been paying for this time the bill would have been over £7,000.
Dijali Teffah explains
“Ziptech provided two new servers, and a brand new system, and worked night and day over the Easter holidays, until the end of spring to replace and secure the server and system. This would normally have cost us £7000, but our organisation didn’t pay a penny towards it, as we had a monthly retainer instead. The charity could not have afforded to pay for the new server, so the money saving aspect for us is immense”.
The computer network now works reliably, and staff and volunteers have control over their machines.
Budget costs are kept low, and Ziptech regularly visits each of the sites, to assist and mop up any problems before they emerge.
Dijali Teffah has the final word:
”Ziptech have stabilised and completely refurbished our IT systems, and now we have peace of mind, as there are no further problems in our network or on any of our machines.”
