In August 2017, Microsoft will withdraw support for published apps software RemoteApp. RemoteApp makes programs that are hosted on the Cloud easily accessible locally. By clicking a familiar icon, the programme appears to run on the end user’s local computer. Parallels RAS (Remote Access Server) offers many benefits over RemoteApp:
- Parallels offers an excellent support service, which means Ziptech is better equipped to service clients on RAS.
- Parallels RAS offers additional security measures; it can be configured to segregate the local environment from the server environment on the Cloud. This means that if a user’s local machine is subject to a malware attack, it won’t be passed up into the Cloud to spread to other parts of the system. A malware attack can be more easily contained.
- Parallels RAS can run the remote applications from a web browser without installing the RAS client software.
- Over its competitors, Parallels RAS is best value for money.
Ziptech’s CTO Perry Bowles says, “We have been working with Parallels for seven years now and feel confident that RAS will provide our clients with a robust and secure solution for desktop apps.”
Ziptech’s clients who are currently using RemoteApp will be migrated to RAS in July. Users should notice very little change as the desktop appearance of the application icons will look similar.
